Nice campsite with a very good, relaxed atmosphere. Cozy terrace under the trees at the reception. Peace reigns after 10:00 PM and this is actively monitored. Count on around €30 per night, two people and a camper with electricity.
No typical mobile homes of old Belgian make here. Enough birch shade and nicely demarcated spots, intermediate paths and sometimes an old camper van.
At the end of the campsite there is a passage that leads to the river that flows there (the Ourthe). To the left a green path runs towards the village of Hony, under the old railway bridge (you will not be bothered by the railway at the campsite). The path to the right also follows the river. You can then take a circular walk of approximately 1.5 km before returning to the campsite. Nice if you want to walk the dog.
Another nice thing is a walk or bike ride to the village of Esneux. When you leave the campsite, turn left and walk or cycle to the last house on your right. Past the bend, go up slightly and you will see a small pedestrian bridge over the river on the right between the trees. Turn immediately right on the other side and continue your route towards the village of Esneux. You will soon see a lock from a bygone era and also the occasional scout camp for youth in the grassy floodplains. Typically Belgian!
Do you fancy a longer bike ride? Then cycle further to Esneux and make sure you keep the river on your right side. The cycle route (cycle path!) that the Belgians devised here is surprisingly well marked and also of good quality. The route takes you through Esneux deeper into the Ardennes and you occasionally cross the Ourthe so that you have it on your left again. The landscape, the backyards and the sometimes dilapidated villages clearly have their Walloon charm.
If the weather is very hot, cool off in the river, just like the youth did (see photo).
If you turn right from the campsite into Hony, you can also follow a beautiful cycle route towards Tilff/Liège. Then keep the river on your right side at the beginning. Hony also has a very small station. Actually more of a boarding point towards Liège or further into the Ardennes.
